Okay, so i finally linked all of the things ive been putting off, woohoo!

LETS TALK: DEPRESSION (3/7/26)
not that this is really a lets talk but does anyone else get really just annoyed with the fact that they are depressed? Like i have things i need to do and even want to do, and it doesnt even matter if im excited about, the second i start doing whatever it is im doing it immediently goes out the window. i just stare at it and cant bring myself to do it, or anything at, like i dont even want to play on the phone. i just lay there like a looney person and zone out for hours and thats all i want to do. Like i know thats kinda the whole thing with depression but its just so annoying when i can bring myself to care about my well being. anyways this was more of just a rant, bye.

MOUSELING.net's 100 QUESTIONS FOR WEBMASTERS (COMPLETED BY ME) (3/6/26)
mouseling.net

1. Please introduce yourself.
hey im alex.

2. How long have you been making websites?
ive had my neocities since december 2023 :)

3. And what got you into the hobby?
a coding class i took in middle school, my teached showed me neocites.

4. What kind of website are you most interested in?
i like personal websites and blogs.

5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?
ummmm i have a vauge idea of what the page will be. then just fly by the seat of my pants for everything else.

6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.
i will have to come back to this and link some of my favorites. if im honest a lot of stuff just comes out of my head.

7. What's your favourite part about making websites?
i get to have a place to make whatever i want. as a creative its just another outlit for me.

8. And the thing you struggle with the most?
comparing myself. ive been coding for quite a while but im a slow learner. i feel like i dont have the same skills as the majority of people do on here even though im constantly learning new things.

9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?
eh. mostly different pages but i do use the same layout for my blog, junk journal, and random travel blogs.

10. How confident are you with CSS?
somewhat? i know css, and have taken the time to learn it throughly but im also lazy and keep a google doc cheat sheet with all my premade bases for blocks of code. so im not sure i *fully* trust my memory to remember how to type it all.

11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?
i do, i dont really use them.

12. What is your favourite HTML element?

13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?
stare at it... blankly, then put random things down and adjust until im happy with it.

14. Do you know JavaScript?
did when i first learned code, forgot most of it :( i perfer html css.

15. How about PHP?
no...

16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?
its reminisent of 90s/2000s simplistic old web but i also kinda do whatever i want.

17. Are you more focused on content or design?
both? what gets me excited to code is the content, but you best believe i aint leaving it ugly.

18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?
no, and i dont really care to.

19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?
super cool. i love them.

20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?
checked all the time when i first started coding because i was scared of getting it wrong. havent bothered to check in like 3 years.

21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?
i like them!

22. What do you think of button walls in particular?
i think theyre a really neat way of showing your appreciation for other web masters work. i have one im working on right now.

23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?
if i were to start over right now, probably very similar.

24. Are you envious of other people's websites?
absolutly.

25. What text editor do you use?
i dont...

26. Why do you use that one?
...

27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?
my own? i do pretty much all of my images through imgbb.

28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?
ive never heard of that.

29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?
probably quite a bit? i have lots of pages.

30. Do you keep local backups of your files?
no, i need to though.

31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?
i really like looking at all of the super fun, crazy websites i see on here but i perfer mine to be a little more simple and easy to navigate.

32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?
i do for the most part. i think it subconscious because i naturally just like to use my favorite colors.

33. Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?
not seriously. i used to get really bummed out because i thought everyone was better than me. but i like my site as is and enjoy the hobby so i got over that.

34. Do you have many webmaster friends, or is it a solitary hobby?
no, not really. i have a handfull of mutuals on neocities but thats it.

35. Do people in your real life know about your website?
most people know (because i litterally do it all the time.) but i also only talk to three people :(

36. Do you update your website very often? How often is "very often"?
somewhat often? i do whenever i can, sometimes its everyday and other times theres weeks in between.

37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?
mo, ive redone my main page a few times but im really happy with how it looks now so i just leave. im not very good about change.

38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?
me focused? i have a lot of stuff about my life, my hobbies, and special intrests/hyerfixations.

39. Do you do web design professionally?
no, i think id be a cool job but unfortunitly not many people want cool websites anymore :(

40. If not, would you like to? And if you're comfortable answering, what do you do for work?
eh, i have other things i would rather do with my life porfessionaly, i enjoy this as a hobby and i feel like i wouldnt be as passionite about it if it was my job. i work at a library.

41. Do you communicate with people by email very much?
no.

42. Some people reject social media and use websites as a replacement. Do you keep social media outside of your website?
i have instagram to see what cousin and girlfriend post but other than that i dont use it. i dont post or scroll. i have tiktok, it doesnt get used. i dont have any other social media and i like it that way.

43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?
i avoid them unless someone i specifically know uses it. i dont want to meet people through it, im just not sociable that way.

44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?
sometimes. my normal mixes, but the majority of the time i do it in silence of listing to one of those scary story youtube videos.

45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?
one one website. i like to be able to see everything i have on my dashbord.

46. On a similar note, do you keep to one topic on your site, or many?
many, i put whatever sounds fun or im interested in at the time.

47. Do you present your real self, or at least try? Or do you construct a persona on purpose?
just myself but a more authentic version of myself? im very shy in real life and actually suspect myself of being selectivly mute. i have a hard time talking to people in general let alone my intrests, probloms, and things about myself but its very easy to just type everything out on a website. i think i forget the majority of the time that other people can even look at my stuff.

48. Have you ever made a good friend thanks to your website?
no.

49. Are you happy with the way HTML and CSS currently work?
yes.

50. What are practices that you think people should avoid?
hotlinking. just dont hotlink. i didnt know what it was at first and didnt really think it was a big deal, but now i do and im stuck uploading lots of imaged to imgbb and i wish i wouldve just done that in the first place.
if you need a reason to not do it other than it damages whatever site you took it from, understand that if that site ever goes down all of your graphics wont work, then you wont have the chance upload them yourself, because theyre gone.

51. What about under-utilised practices, or things you think people should do more?
ummm.

52. Do you use a lot of semantic HTML? Or are you guilty of generic structure?
both?

53. Do you consider different browsers?
no.

54. Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.
chrome. i dont like thats it through google, but honestly im too lazy to switch. i dont actually think it matters what browser you use.

55. And what OS are you on?
windows? im not sure

56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?
no opinion at all.

57. Are your websites mobile-friendly?
depends on the page. some of my info pages are but not all of them, which makes me sad but i honestly have other things id rather do than try to make it work.

58. What are your thoughts on autoplay?
nope no nope.

59. What are your thoughts on webrings? Are you in any?
i think theyre neat. im not in any.

60. Do you have any web shrines? What do you like to see in that sort of page?
i think so? from what ive seen a shrine is really similar to my info pages, i just call it something else.

61. Are your websites "cliche", in your opinion?
a little. only because naturally as humans we watch what other people do, and think 'oh i should do something like that.' so we copy eacherother a lot and after some time theres a lot of things you see in almost every website. and i have those but i also come up with a lot of my own stuff.

62. What is your ideal website? Are you striving for that, or for something else?
something where im able to express myself, and is easy to navigate, i think thats about what i have now.

63. Are you an artist? Do you draw or design your own assets?
i am. i dont make my own assets though, i have an art gallery page.

64. What are your favourite resource sites?
i love, and find most of my graphics from tumblr. just search whatever theme you wand + graphics/neocities and it should show you lots.

65. Is there a habit you just can't get away from no matter how hard you try?
quitting for the day just because one thing made me frustrated.

66. What's your biggest advice for a new webmaster?
dont think too hard about! dont stress yourself out trying to learn, let it be fun and know you arent going to know everything right away, that just means the joy of learning something new lasts longer. (also, not to cause an issue but its something i feel like i have to say. i pretty passionitly disagree with mouselings respone to this question. obviously, thats their opinion and i cant change it, but on the note of new coders i think its important that they understand they should be making their website for THEM, not for the people viewing it. i understand where mouseling is coming from, yes, a lot of people do have websites that are a little boring, but do you know how easy it to just leave? dont get yourself riled up because the person who made the website doesnt care. its their website and you dont have to like it. ESSPECIALLY new webmasters. they dont have to have everything planned out to make it enjoyable for webserfers, the dont even fully know how to code for gods sake. please dont pressure people into feeling like if they dont know everything yet or dont know what to say on a webpage then they just shouldnt have a website. let them learn first and the rest should fizzle out to become a more well rounded site eventually.)

67. Do you keep all your styling in CSS? Or do you hard-code some?
CSS.

68. What do you think of frameset layouts?
i think theyre cool, but theyre not for me.

69. How about table-based layouts?
eh.

70. Do you subscribe to the ideas of "one-column", "two-column" and "three-column" layouts? Do you use any of these?
i do it however i want for each page.

71. Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?
probaly css, unless it an info page where i do a lot of paragraphs.

72. Have you ever made a page with no CSS? It's useful for your thoughts.
no, but i should try it.

73. Do you ever find yourself making layouts with nothing to put on them? Or do you only make layouts when the need arises?
no, i have the oppisite issue where i know what i want on the page im just stuck formatting.

74. Would you consider yourself a beginner? Or advanced? Somewhere in the middle?
in the middle, id say. im obviously still learning new things, but i can absolutly make pages without needing to look up how to do things. ive been doing it long enough it comes natural to me and i have a much easier time invisioning what things would look like than i used to. i dont find myself saving and checking as often.

75. Do you have a habit of looking at the source code of websites you visit?
no.

76. How did YOU learn how to make websites?
learned basic coding in a 6th and 7th grade computer science class. after that im self taught i use w3 schools as needed (great website.)

77. Do you ever force elements to do things they're not supposed to?
yup...

78. Thoughts on floating elements?
i like that they add, interactability to your site.

79. When you're sizing stuff, what do you use first? Do you use px, em, %, or something else?
honestly i just change stuff until it works.

80. Do you have a favourite font?
ive really been enjoying using the code tag to make the font that shows up on your website the same as on your code.

81. Would you run a website with another person? How would that work?
maybe? i would help someone in a heartbeat but i perfer having my own site rather that sharing, wouldnt matter who the person is.

82. Do you surf the Web to find new personal websites very often?
sometime. i do enjoy looking at others work but the majority of the time i end up just working on my own site.

83. Do you bookmark other people's websites? How would you feel knowing someone else bookmarked yours?
sometimes, the majority of the time i add them to my button wall if they have one. i always link back, thats my way of saving them to look at. i would be embarrassed, i forget people can see my website but i would also be happy someone else enjoyed it.

84. What do you want people to be most impressed with when they see your website?
i want people to see how creative i am for the most part.

85. Are you interested in technology outside of websites? Do you collect?
umm, not really, i like old tech and own a few things but dont really collect.

86. How often and for how long are you online?
quite a while. i do online school so obviously i spend a long time doing that. i dont use my phone very much so most of my screentime is on my computer.

87. When it comes to your website, who is your target audience?
Me.

88. Have you ever been interested in XHTML?
no, i like normal html.

89. Do you program in general? Have you ever written a program for use with or on your website, not counting simple JavaScript?
no.

90. Speaking of programs that help you make websites, what do you think of static site generators (SSGs)? Have you ever used one?
no.

91. Do you keep a hitcounter? Why or why not?
neocities automatically keeps one. i dont look at it.

92. Do you frequent forums? Which ones?
no.

93. Do you write your page content directly into the editor, or do you prepare it elsewhere, like a text document or a Word document?
right into neocities.

94. Do you think you appear cool to others? A more accurate answer now: do other people ever say you're cool?
No, No.

95. Are you embarrassed of your old work? Have you ever deleted everything out of shame?
yes, several time, its a constant loop.

96. Would you close down your website if you couldn't update it, or would you leave an archive?
leave it an archive.

97. Do you reveal a lot about yourself on your website? Or are you more secretive?
a fair bit, nothing extemely personal.

98. Are you willing to reveal who your best online friend is, and/or if they have a website?
no.

99. And do you optimise the images on your website?
whatevr imgbb does.

100. We're out of time! How do you feel after answering 100 questions? ....other than exhausted.
good! these were fun, took me three hours (TT)

STRAWPAGE (1/23/26)

so, today i made a straw page(?) i dunno, i just heard about it and thought it sounded interesting. its basically a website that lets you make your own websites but hosted through theirs. like neocities but its all just a drag and drop. which i thought sounded interesting so i made one, i think its cool that people who cant code can still participate in the not as convenient types of social media, even though i still think more people need to learn how to code :)
i just thought it was a nice website -- heres the one i made as well as the link to their main site. (keep in minf mines a little boring because i didnt know what to write and basically just links back to my neocities)
