TYPES OF JELLYFISH          



MOON JELLIES     these are moon jellyfish --->    


Moon jellyfish are the most common and most well know type of jellyfish. They are a clear jellyfish but usually are illuminated by colorful lights in aquariums. Their bells usually grow up to 12in, in diameter. They are also do not pose any threat to humans because their sting is not strong enough to do damage to human skin, so they are usually safe to pick up and touch, many people keep them as pets but only usually live for 8 - 12 months. Moon jellyfish can be found in all oceans of the world.

FLOWER HAT JELLYFISH

   

Flower hat jellies are small jellyfish, only usually growing up to 6 inches in diameter. They're clear with black stripes on their bells. Their tenticals are small with pink spots at their ends. They usually live for 4 to 6 months in shallow waters of the pacific and atlantic ocean, near the ocean floors, close too sea kelp and seagrass.

PACIFIC SEA NETTLE

   

Pacific sea nettles, often known as west cost sea nettles are another common type of jellyfish. Their bells and tenticles are both orange ish yellow, while their oral arm (the part underneath their tenticals) is usually a grey/white color. they usually live for about 6 months in the wild. Their bells can grow up to 30in in diameter while their tenticals can grow up to 16ft long in rare cases. They usually have 24-40 tenticles. Their stings are painful but overall not super dangerous.

COMPASS JELLYFISH

   

A compass jelly is a type of sea nettle, they have long stripes on their bells, making them look like a compsass from above. They are found in the costal waters of the northeast atlantic sea. They are a carnivores and eat small fish and other jellyfish.

LIONS MANE JELLYFISH

   

Most lions mane jellyfish are found in the arctic to pacific ocean. They are typically the biggest type of jellyfish and usually live for up to 12 months. Their bells can reach up to 8ft in diameter, their tenticals are known to grow longer that 100ft. They are red and orange, and have up to 1,200 tenticals. The largest one ever found was around 120ft long.
