what they look like-
Double crested cormorants are waterbirds, that look somewhat similar to ducks. Theyre black in color with long necks and webbed feet. they have yellow faces/beaks, bright blue eyes, and a hooked beak. they are usually about 2-3 ft tall with a 4 ft wingspan.
where theyre found-
Cormorants - Different subspecies are found all over the world, by any fresh or salt body of water, including coasts, lakes, rivers, swamps and wetlands. double crested cormorants specifically are mostly found in north america (in all the same aquatic conditions.) They are often found, in trees where they nest, or hanging out around the water.
what they eat-
Cormorants are diving birds, when they hunt they arent picky about who they go with or what they eat. They have been seen hunting in groups, also by themselves and they will eat most things they can find, including fish, crabs, shrip, crayfish, frogs and other small creatures. They are well known to be able so swallow big fish whole.
other-
They make deep gurnting/croaking noises. They often are seen standing on shore with their backs twards the sun and their wings out for effective drying after hunting and swimming. They have been seen keeping rocks in their nests that they treat like eggs. Double crested cormorants usually dive 5-25 ft underwater to catch their food, but can go deeper or closer to the surface depending on how deep the water their hunting in in.
